The distinction of the digital sparks 02 winners in media art, media design and media informatics took place within the context of the Expert-Workshop "Online Archives - Perspectives on Networked Knowledge Spaces" that took place 25.-26. October 2002 in Schloss Birlinghoven in Sankt Augustin near Bonn, it was organised by the MARS-Exploratory Media Lab of the Fraunhofer Institute for Media Communication and funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
