Kurzbeschreibung
"Memory of Space" is an interactive computer installation that observes life on a city square, and makes visitors aware of events at the location by showing a stratification of traces of people's presence there. From the individual paths of passers-by, a system of routes is calculated which gives structure to the square: lines are created (marked in grey), which can be checked for their reference to large-scale traffic routes. A system of coordinates which corresponds to the coordinates of the video-monitored square is distorted by people who cross the square. The square loses its geographical coordinates and acquires an individual form that corresponds to the way the square is used.By means of the aerial photograph, events at the square are integrated into the geographical location. At the same time, due to its integration into the virtual image, the square takes on a greater importance - passers-by see themselves as shapers of an installation that can be seen by everyone.
