Abstract

The "Mobile Unit" is a transportable web event station, a mobile media laboratory for sending, receiving and processing networked information streams. Its core features are video/audio streaming and the Internet link. Its compact modular structure contains a complete web production station. Up to six video sources can be connected, mixed and processed. The network module for different bandwidths, the multimedia online editing module, the 100 Stream Kasenna media server (supports all known multimedia formats), MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 hardware encoders and multimedia software all help to provide a state-of-the-art production environment. The "Mobile Unit" is the ideal instrument for producing and presenting networked projects. It can set up a cordless, server-supported production environment independently of physical networks and provide it with multimedia services. The smallest version of the Mobile Unit, the Network Reporter Pack, consists of a laptop as a server with radio LAN card, DV video camcorder and data transmission rates from 56 kbps to 100 Mbps. The Transport Pack Design enables rapid, cordless plug-and-play operation.
