Kurzdarstellung

Kurzbeschreibung

Wave table is built upon the unforgettable experience of almost everybody's childhood, when a telephone was constructed with two tin cans and a copper line in between. The excitement of our childhood is reanimated by the narration of this installation.
The tin can copper line effect of a body-less, transported voice and dislocated reception transmission, is extended by mapping the acoustic transmission into a dislocated visual reception and vice versa, a visual transmission into a dislocated acoustic reception. The interface of wave table is the traditional tin can copper line, which builds up a narrative, emotional bridge to the childhood of the users of wave table.
The installation wave table is touching on a basic principle of digital media, where binary data is atomising media and digitalisation allows the computerisation and combination of different media in many forms. Furthermore, the installation finds an intuitive way of archiving and representing sound in visual data.
The interface is simple and clear. The story striking. The technology in the background, the experience in front.
With their installation wave table Ching Hei Tang, Chin Cheung Lo and Han Kyu Lim achieved extraordinary results in all assessment criterias of the digital creation module, in the MA course of interactive, digital media in Ravensbourne, college of design and communication.

Seminar / Kurzbeschreibung

DIGITAL CREATION
Digital Creation is a series of modules in all three terms / six terms of the course. This unit deals with characteristic computational creative methods. It is using digital tools as creative tools on its own, without any necessary relation to representative historical designing methods. Digital tools have the ability to combine and handle different media. Time, space, colour or form is computed in binary form. By using Programming Languages or sophisticated applications we are able to access these values and combine them in any form. Sound is colour and colour is space. Once you are able to handle digital tools on a programming level, there are no limits to your creativity.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
"By the end of the module you will have (done) S.." Digital Creation starts by introducing the basics of programming and algorithms. You will be able to design simple machines, which extend the concept of mechanical machinery. You will be introduced to the basics of interface design and finally you will use this module to construct a story between hard space / soft space and use platforms like mobile phones and interactive tv for your narration.
