Abstract

The netzspannung.org Knowledge Map System implements a toolkit for visualising and exploring contexts and relationships in distributed information collections and collaborative knowledge spaces. This toolkit consists of modules for semantic analysis of information items and interfaces for visualising relationships and creating new knowledge structures. It enables existing archives and collections of artistic works and scientific research to be connected into a collaborative knowledge map. To this end, the current system implements modules such as a dynamic adaptor for user-oriented integration of online archives, a semantic text analyser, a timeline interface for time-based cross-category information contextualisation, and a semantic map interface for information clustering based on semantic relationships. This provides the foundation for an expandable contextualisation system integrating heterogeneous information sources. Its application to the information space of netzspannung.org provides a tool for exploring how artistic production, scientific research and technological development intersect with each other.
