“Tight combination of modular and physical objects and the benefit of dynamic graphics of GUI.”

Reaction to and evaluation of the project:
“From the esthetical point of view, illuminating transparent physical object is accented quite positively by many trial users. People also tried to create a new physical layout of tiles, often by using multiple hands, or by multiple users.”

Updates or follow-up projects:
“We have installed this system in Sony’s museum (Sony Explora Science Tokyo) and connected multimedia contents to it.”

  • This project was presented at ACM SIGCHI 2000. Several media (including BBC and NHK) reported. From 2001, the second generation of DataTile is permanently exhibited at Sony Explora Science Tokyo, which is a science museum produce by Sony Corporation.
