Stéphane Marchand-Maillet is Assistant Professor at the University of Geneva: There he leads the Viper project in the Computer Vision and Multimedia Lab, working on content-based multimedia retrieval, management and content description. His group has released the GIFT (GNU Image Finding Tool), the first open-source Content-based Image Retrieval (CBIR) system including MRML (Multimedia Retrieval Markup Language). Previously Merchand-Maillet was at the Institut Eurecom at Sophia-Antipolis (France) where he worked on automatic video indexing techniques based on human face localisation and recognition.
His PhD thesis, which he wrote at Imperial College, London, is about theoretical image processing.

Publikationen

Author of several publications on image analysis and information retrieval, including a book on low-level image analysis; he currently leads the Benchathlon, a joint international effort for benchmarking content-based image retrieval systems.
