Abstract

Martin Kemp ist Professor für Kunstgeschichte an der British Academy Wolfson (1993-98) und Professor für Kunstgeschichte, University of Oxford. Im Zentrum seiner Forschung stand die Beziehung zwischen Wissenschaftsmodellen der Natur und der Theorie und der Praxis der Kunst. In zunehmendem Maße konzentrierte sich die Forschungsarbeit auf die Visualisierung, Modellierung und Darstellung in Kunst und Wissenschaft. Im Fokus stand vor allem Leonardo da Vinci. Der Höhepunkt der Optikforschungen ist The Science of Art. The Optical Themes in Western Art from Brunelleschi to Seurat,1990. Themen der Anatomie und entsprechende Fragen aus der Naturgeschichte und der "schweren" Wissenschaften werden in Visualizations: the "Nature" Book of Science and Art und Spectacular Bodies erforscht.
