Abstract
PointScreen is a novel interface to manipulate digital artefacts touchlessly based on enhanced human body energy. Currently, the control, i.e. cursor movement and selection, of computational devices is dominated either by mouse-click for desktop applications or by touch-screen-press for public terminals. The PointScreen interface enables the user to control the computer intuitively with a simple pointing gesture and to navigate or execute commands simply by pointing at the screen - without touching it at any time. Thus, it is highly suitable for application domains in the public or semi-public space like in museums, exhibitions or for interactive window-shopping. Beyond, areas with a high need of hygiene e.g. as surgeries, may be interested in the system since it is operated touchlessly. PointScreen is easy and economically to install and maintain: the system can be placed invisibly behind any non-metal material and integrated easily with any normal display or projection surface. As the first application, the “Info-Jukebox”, a digital multimedia kiosk system, was developed.
