Kurzbeschreibung
"Second Nature (2004). A DVD Project exploring new Images of Nature"
What happens when we try to form an idea of how nature is represented in computergames using the tools and conventions provided by the medium itself? While we’re finding our way among pixelated pine trees and bushes, crossing fresh green polygonal meadows, following static mountain streams, looking up at the occasional electronic bird sound and staring at Caspar David Friedrich-like views, a computergame will do whatever it can to get us to play its game. Exploring nature as nature is just not what the game wants us to do. It wants us to keep moving, to see nature as an arena for action and performance. What starts as an investigation into the representation of nature unavoidably becomes an investigation into the nature of representation. The presentation explored how artistic and mediatheoretical approaches of computergames can sharpen and inform each other.
